Germany is divided in between the victorious nations from World War 2, the United States, the Soviet Union, the UK, and France. In south of Europe a power struggle in between communists and governments is raging. Italy is edging between Communism and Democracy.
In Greece a civil war is raging with communists in the north and government control in the south. Eastern Europe is under the Soviet orbit and with each passing moment the USSR's stranglehold increases. In Asia, Iran is struggling to regain control over the northern part of the county.
China is engulfed in the Chinese Civil War between the nationalists and the communists. Manchuria is occupied by the Soviet Union and Korea is divided between the USA and USSR. Japan is under American occupation. The Vietminh has rebelled against their French colonial overlords while in South East Asia the Dutch are struggling to maintain control over their empire and with it the era of decolonisation has begun.
The Old World has been swept aside in the storm of war and a new one is taking shape but for better or worse this is the American Century.New World Order Start Date 1992'Gorbachev tear down this wall!' In light of these developments, the end of the Cold War can hardly have said to deliver the decisive realisation of international peace but it still has profundly altered our world and whether it is for the better or worse is up to you. Several years ago, I played Victoria 2. I even took the time to get the A House Divided expansion. Then I just sort of wandered away from the game. Hell, I might have forgotten about it. Shit happens.On something of a whim, I decided to grab Heart of Darkness and patch that baby up. Not having played Victoria 2 in a while, I figured it might be fun to jump back in with an LP. However, every single one of my Paradox LPs have involved a Mod.
I never LP vanilla.For shits and giggles, I grabbed the Pony Demand Mod. From what I've gathered, it combines a My Little Pony Mod with the Popular Demand: Divide By Zero Mod.
(It's also supposed to balance the Pony Mod, as I have also gathered that the original had an overpowered as fuck Equestria.)So yeah. This is apparently happening.This is where the Mod has seen fit to place Equestria. When I first heard about this Mod, Equestria was the only thing added. Not sure when Griffonia was included.The conceit of this Mod is that Equestria and Griffonia were always where they are, but that they've only recently become known to the world at large.How did they remain hidden? Apparently, they're just really good at hiding from Human Explorers and Missionaries. (That's seriously the justification.)ANYWAYS. I have not played Heart of Darkness before, and so have no real idea how the expansion changed Victoria 2.
I've also never played Divide By Zero or Ponies, so I have no fucking clue what these Mods changed either. In other words, I'm going in semi-blind. (I think I still remember how to play this game.)I like including some measure of interactivity in my LPs. So to start this extremely short inaugural post, I will let you select which of three countries I'll be playing as.The Principality of EquestriaThe Kingdom of GriffoniaThe United States of AmericaWhy these three? Because the first two only exist because of this Mod, and the United States is supposed to be Equestria's chief rival.Will we lead a bunch of Ponies to glory?

It's a tie between the United States and Equestria.Using the argument that there's more to see and do as Equestria, which I kind of suspected, this means we'll be playing as Equestria.At this point, I'll go ahead and tell you what made me grab this mod in the first place. I grabbed the Pony Demand Mod simply because I wanted to see if anything special happened if the United States defeated Equestria. As I'm suspecting the mod hasn't really bothered with the American perspective on the Ponies, I figure I can do a USA run in my own time.I'll hop into the game, get some flavor events and whatnot. Let's look at some shit, shall we?Before I really begin, a quick comparison of the nations I let you vote on.The Kingdom of Griffonia is a primitive nation and an absolute monarchy. It is ranked 92nd in the world. It has no allies and no puppets. Over 50% of its population is made up of common Laborers.The United States of America is a Great Power and a democracy.
It is ranked 8th in the world. It has a single ally and puppet in the nation of Liberia. Farmers make up the largest chunk of its population, followed by Laborers.The Principality of Equestria is a civilized nation and an absolute monarchy. It is ranked 18th in the world. It has no allies or puppets. Over 70% of its population is Farmers.This is the main game screen. I zoomed in to show off that, for Equestria, armies are represented by Horses instead of Humans.There's nothing too much for me to say other than, wow, holy shit.
We have zero industry. That can't be good.Here is a closer look at our starting military. We have 42 Thousand soldiers, which is actually more than Equestria can support, and 4 ships.Thus far, our only officer is Shining Armor of the Royal Guard.I'm definitely going to have to reorganize this so-called military.
I'm sure as shit not fighting any wars with militia. Only problem is, it's been so damn long since I played Victoria 2 that I'm having trouble remembering a good army composition.shrugs. Oh well.Here we can get a closer look at Equestria's population. As previously mentioned, we have a shitload of Farmers.Our population is almost entirely Pony, with a very small minority of Buffalo.
The entirety of our Pony population follows the Celestian faith, with the entirety of the Buffalo population practicing an Animist faith.Ideologically speaking, most of our population is Conservative. However, those considered Reactionary form a close second. Liberals are the smallest group.Here we can get a closer look at our politics, as well as where we stand on reforms.On Social Reforms. We have the absolute bare minimum for Unemployment and Healthcare. We also have Restrictions on Child Labor. I feel I should point this out because, while I don't remember a lot about how Victoria 2 works, I do remember that damn near every single country starts out with zero Social Reforms.On Political Reforms.
Two Year Draft, Upper House is Appointed, State Controlled Trade Unions, Public Meetings Allowed, Censored Press, No Slavery, and Limited Minority Rights. (Not as big a deal, countries can vary pretty wildly on these reforms fresh out the gate.)I'll go ahead and name our political parties. As should already be clear, the Conservatives make up the Moderate Party. The Liberals make up the Reformist Party.
The Reactionaries make up the Imperialist Party.Here is what Equestria starts with, technologically speaking. My memories tell me that we could be better. At the very least, the voice of a pissed off Prussian is asking, 'Seriously? This is all you have?' My first act was to start researching the Strategic Mobility Army Tech. From reading some of the discussions on this mod, the United States is NOT our friend. I need an army that doesn't suck if I want to survive.
These are the three decisions available to us right from the start.The first of these is Renaming Equestria. When the game begins, the names of our regions and provinces are the Human names for them. (San Francisco, Las Vegas, etc.) On firing this decision, they are changed into the Pony names for the regions and provinces.
(San Francisco becomes Canterlot, Las Vegas becomes Las Pegasus, etc.)For what it's worth, Ponyville is apparently in Redding, California.The Immigrant Act is basically Equestria going, 'Hahaha! Fuck Humans!' The Rights of Ponies is just the Pony equivalent of a decision Human nations get, The Rights of Man. (It raises Prestige and Consciousness in our population.)Just repeating what the decision said.shrugs.Telling Humans to stay the fuck out of Equestria pisses off the British, the French, the Russians, the Austrians, the Prussians, the Americans, the Spanish, and the Ottomans. It also reduces Militancy in our Reactionaries, which means they're less likely to start shit.This decision also hurts our Prestige and makes sure that immigrants stay the fuck away from Equestria.I'll also point out the fact that this apparently lasts until December 31st of 1949.
That's apparently a change that comes with, I believe, the Divide By Zero portion of this mod. (Victoria 2 normally ends just as you enter the year 1936.)Renaming the territories of Equestria causes a couple Brief History events to fire.Celestia and Luna ruled over Equestria peacefully, right up until something most foul occurred. The Ponies of Equestria were discovered by.gasp. Humans! The Equestrians tried to keep themselves hidden from Humanity, but the ever increasing number of explorers and whatnot forced them to reveal themselves to the world at large in the year 1816.Celestia, realizing the Ponies were fucked if they continued as they were, because Humans are just soooo mean, traveled to Europe to learn Humanity's secrets. Upon doing so, she returned to Equestria and drove the Ponies to Westernize. She even hired a bunch of smart and gifted Humans to help her centralize and reform the state into Enlightened Absolutism, then presumably kicked the dirty monkeys to the curb.It is now the year 1836, they've apparently finished modernizing, and Celestia and Luna supposedly rule with benevolence and grace.
However, Liberalism is spreading in Europe and the Princesses greatly fear the idea of dirty Liberals infesting their country. (Too late!)Oh, and I should point out one thing. Celestia fucking hates Astronomy. That history made a point of mentioning it was the only one of the natural sciences she let stagnate.
Because in this mod, Celestia and Luna don't have any control over the Sun and the Moon whatsoever. (I think Tyrant Celestia can even give the jackboot to would be Pony Astronomers.)Anyways. This decision and events gives us the effect of telling Assimilation to fuck off. Combine this with the immigration thing, and Equestria has made it abundently clear that it highly values a racially pure Equestria.Harmony gives us Presitge and reduces Militancy.Earth Ponies are awesome farmers.Pegasi make RGO happen. (The fuck is RGO?)Unicorns make factories magic.And here is the first newspaper of our Equestria run.The people of Romania are going nuts over vampires.

Majesty, from my recollection of the War Sages' manuals (such barbaric things!) armies benefit by being composed of equal parts artillery and infantry, with perhaps some cavalry auxilia to speed occupations.Further, while the brutish Griffons to our north have been allowed to govern their own affairs for so much of history, I fear that they represent an opportunity for the slavering beast crouching to our east. The Griffon nation would benefit greatly from our. Enlightened protection, though they may object somewhat, in the short term. Plans for a subjugation of Griffonia should be drawn up immediately, before the mongrel American is able to make his move. (OOC: Five years would be a good idea eventually but given how hectic the early game can get it might be wise to have shorter terms. Just whenever you have enough for an update will work.
Also I think you can only become the Lunar Republic as the result of an anarcho-liberal revolution. It's been a while since I played though and things might have changed. As for the reformation of our military it is undoubtedly necessary and I would recommend a 1:1:1 ratio of artillery, regulars, and cavalry (the type of which I will leave to your enlightened mind). However it would be best to defer that to a later time as all of them will be needed to deal with our neighbors to the north. My agents have confirmed that the Americans will seek to annex them as a preliminary to an invasion of our homeland.
We must establish a pretense to force a concession from the Griffins at once. Once we are at war we can add plans for another concession and thus seize all the Griffin territories save for their heartland. With luck this should keep the Americans from claiming any Griffin lands but if not then it it should easy to isolate whatever force the Americans leave for an inevitable future war. That is because the Americans will soon seek to take all of our lands as part of their so-called 'manifest destiny.'
Ultimately the only way to survive this will be to fortify the pass that has been left open despite the Rocky Mountains and the Barrier. This pass is contained in the northernmost part of the Griffin Mountains, which the Americans call 'Idaho.' Politically, I recommend that you hearken to the words of the Conservative members of your court. We understand that to permit some slight liberties to your population will do no harm but the prerogatives of the Monarchy cannot be undone for they are a key part of our society.

While we must promote our military the technology is currently so expensive it will take too long to research. Better to find technologies that will improve the output of our scholars and our industries. Please examine the technologies available to find one. If nothing is available to improve our scholars might I suggest investigating the rumors of the 'iron horses' some Europeans have developed. Once we have them we should be able to build systems of transportation that will allow your wealthiest subjects to make money which they can invest in building factories. In four years I believe it will be possible to examine some new form of idealism which will deeply invigorate our scholars.
